WITH all the talk of the new Omicron variant, it is easy to forget that other variants of Covid are pretty rampant across our region.

Since restrictions were lifted in July, cases have been steadily rising and have only been increasing further as winter sets in.

The new variant has resulted in some measures being reintroduced with face coverings now mandatory in shops and some other settings.

So far, no cases or suspected of Omicron have been recorded in Hull or the East Riding.

But cases have been rising in Hull, while the East Riding has some areas where the rate means more than one in 100 people have the virus.

Despite having some of the worst areas for the Covid rate, cases in the week up until November 26 have fallen by 79 with 1,588 cases.

In Hull, cases have risen by 44 for in the week up to November 26 with 1,235 cases in total.

Thankfully, hospital admissions and deaths have not risen too much and have remained relatively low compared to the number of cases thanks to the vaccine rollout.

There were 22 Covid deaths in Hull’s hospitals throughout November, which is a significant rise on the 14 in October but fewer than the 39 in September. Hospital admissions rose sharply a couple of weeks ago, but have dropped slightly since.

The latest data from Public Health England shows how fast cases are rising.
