Festive film shot in Howden, who knew?

RESIDENTS WILL SPOT SOME FAMILIAR PLACES

-

A 2021 Christmas Netflix film has been filmed in Howden, but not many people knew about it.

Father Christmas Is Back starring Elizabeth Hurley, Kelsey Grammer, Nathalie Cox and Love Actually star Kris Marshall was released earlier this year.

The festive American film, which centres around four sisters who reunite for Christmas in a Yorkshire mansion, uses Howden as a key location for special moments on screen.

The film, which was released on the popular subscription channel in November, uncovers a long-buried secret that tore the sisters and their family apart for so many years.

THE CAST includes:

■■Elizabeth Hurley: Joanna Christmas ■■John Cleese: John Christmas

Well-known Howden locations including Atikinson’s Bakery and The Shire Hall star in the spectacle.

Howden Shire Hall is often used for large events including weddings, and is spotted early on in the film.

Before the film was released, large film crews were spotted outside a popular Howden bakery back in September 2020.

Actress Nathalie Cox is spotted leaving the venue with large Christmas shopping bags wearing heels and a winter coat.

But many East Yorkshire residents have confessed they were not aware the film was shot in Howden.

One individual said: “I live in Howden and I never knew it existed.”

A second added: “Wait, what? I never saw anyone filming there they must have been sneaky.”

A third said: “I was watching Netflix with my kids and we watched Father Christmas Is Back and realised some of the scenes were in Howden.”

Another added: “I never saw the crews in Howden.” ■■Father christmas is Back can be streamed on Netflix now.
