Villagers look to extend run

FERRIBY DEFEND THEIR UNBEATEN RECORD

-

NORTH Ferriby FC make the trip to Rainworth Miners Welfare today looking to consolidate their position at the summit of the NCEL Division One table.

The Villagers got a helping hand in midweek from Worsbrough Bridge who beat promotion rivals Brigg Town 3-2 on Tuesday.

Ferriby last saw action last Saturday when they beat Nostell 1-0 in poor weather conditions and now face 16th-place Rainworth, who lost 3-2 to Hall Road Rangers in midweek after letting a 2-0 lead slip.

The Villagers go into the game with serious doubts over Danny East and Niall Tilsley, but Jackson Jowett is back training. Oliver Kemp is missing but the Villagers will welcome back Ben Leyland now he has completed his three match suspension.

Manager Chris Bolder said: “Paul (Robson) went to watch Rainworth earlier on in the season. If you look at their results you can see they are up and down and that is epitomised by the game on Tuesday.

“There is a wet forecast for the rest of the week so that might mean we’ll be playing on a pitch that might not be great and there has been a game on there midweek which won’t help.”

Hall Road Rangers are aiming to secure a fourth successive league win when they host Glasshoughton Welfare at Haworth Park today.

Rangers sit just above Glasshoughton in the NCEL Division One table and the teams are separated by just one point.

Welfare have 28 points from their first 20 league games, having won eight, drawn four and lost eight, including a 2-1 victory over Rangers in August.

Managed by Darren Holmes and Lee Vigars, Glasshoughton have lost five of their ten away games. They’ve picked up three wins and two draws.

Hall Road joint manager Leon Sewell wants his players to keep their positive run going.

“We’re on a good run at the moment being seven matches unbeaten and picking up three clean sheets in our last four games. Of course, it helps the selfbelief throughout the squad,” he said.

“We’re now going in the right direction, but we’re keeping our feet well and truly on the ground and know that we’ll have to give Glasshoughton our full respect.

“We’re side by side in the table so both teams will go into the game with optimism that the points will be heading their way.”
