SHOTA Arveladze has pledged to come back stronger when he returns from his summer break to target a push for the play-offs as Hull City head coach.

The Georgian is preparing for a spell back in Georgia with his family as he reflects on his first spell in English football having guided the Tigers to a 19th place finish in the Championship.

Saturday’s dramatic ending at the MKM Stadium saw his City side earn a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest in front of the club’s biggest league crowd in five years meant City finished 14 points above the drop zone, with Barnsley, Derby County, and Peterborough United all falling through the trapdoor and into League One.

City have designs on challenging at the top end of the league next season but will need some significant recruitment work over the summer to turn themselves from a team at the wrong end of the table to one capable of mounting a challenge for the top six.

Arveladze took charge of 19 games this term, winning six, drawing four, and losing nine, collecting 22 points along the way, and he says his stint in East Yorkshire has been a learning curve for him, and the players.

“It’s been a very different season with ups and downs, but we achieved our goal and that’s a great feeling,” Arveladze said.

“As a club, we want to grow, we want to improve the squad and we want to learn from our mistakes.

“I’ve personally learned so much this season and thank you to everyone at the club who helped me. I’m proud of boys and hopefully, soon we get what we deserve.

“I just want to say thank you to the owners, players, and staff, the background staff.

“Thank you for making me feel at home.

“Massive thank you to all the Hull City fans, for your amazing support.

“Next season I promise to come back stronger, but now it’s time to spend short time with my family and enjoy some time with them”
