MORE roadwork dates have been announced in Hull as the next phase of the Priory Way improvement project is set to begin.

Preparation work has been taking place for the past five weeks before two phases of works on and adjacent to the road.

The highway is to be widened to allow for the additional traffic expected due to the development of Priory Park East business park.

In Phase 1, beginning on Monday, a new retaining wall will be built along the edge of the Sainsbury’s and Homebase car park, which will allow an additional northbound lane and a shared-use footway to be created in Priory Way.

This work is expected to last five weeks, according to Hull City Council, and will only take place within the car park.

All equipment will be delivered in the early hours to minimise disruption while noise mitigation has also been a key consideration in the selection of equipment to use.

During this time, BT Openreach will also carry out chamber works within the footpath opposite the Sainsbury Way junction.

This will involve a minor southbound lane closure and footway diversion.

Phase 2, beginning on Monday June 6, is the start of works on the highway itself, beginning with the removal of traffic islands between Saxon Way and Sainsbury Way.

During this work, there will be no right turn into Henry Boot Way from Priory Way.

Traffic will be diverted to continue north to the Hessle Road roundabout, returning south along Priory Way to turn left into Henry Boot Way. This phase is expected to last until mid-august.

The development of the remaining Priory Park East business park is expected to create 15,600sq m of commercial floor space, private sector investment of up to £25m and up to 280 jobs.

Approximately 8.5 acres of the remaining 12 acres of land is within Enterprise Zones, designated areas which have tax breaks and other additional government support.

The Priory Way project has been supported with £1,439,899 from the Government’s Local Growth Fund, which was secured by the Hull and East Yorkshire LEP as part of the Government’s commitment to the Northern Powerhouse.

The overall project is due to complete in late spring 2023.
