Bully jailed for brutal attacks on girlfriend
A HEAVY drinking bully repeatedly kicked his terrified girlfriend during a frightening and “utterly horrible” attack that left her struggling to breathe.
Kirk Jowett could be “kind and caring” but, when he started drinking, it was like a “switch is flipped”, Hull Crown Court heard.
He became a “nasty, violent, drunk” person who left the longsuffering woman terrified.
In another potentially dangerous assault while they were in a car, he grabbed the woman’s wrist and pulled it towards him, nearly causing a crash at a roundabout.
Jowett, 35, of Hornsea, admitted assaulting the woman, causing actual bodily harm, on March 23 and April 11 and assaulting her on February 15.
Nigel Clive, prosecuting, said the first incident happened two weeks after Jowett and the woman began a relationship. He went into her bedroom before taking hold of her by the throat and lifting her off feet.
Before the second assault, Jowett had been argumentative all day. They were in a car near a Brandesburton roundabout and he punched the dashboard so hard that she feared the airbags would go off.
He grabbed her wrist, causing bruising and swelling, and pulled it towards him as she was driving, causing the car to swerve. “She thought she was going to crash,” said Mr Clive.
The third, most serious assault happened after the couple had been arguing about her children.
Jowett punched a bedroom door and pushed the woman with both hands, causing her to fall backwards into the door.
He kicked her with full force in the stomach area before kicking her legs, stomach and private parts areas about ten times.
Jowett had a history of previous convictions for domestic violence, with offences against women in 2008, 2011 and 2017.
Jowett was jailed for three years and was given a ten-year restraining order.
