Council’s clanger on jubilee poster

IT WRONGLY REFERS TO QUEEN’S REIGN AS 60 YEARS

HULL residents have pointed out an error on Hull City Council’s Queen’s Platinum Jubilee posters that have been displayed over the city.

The vibrant purple poster shows a number of themed icons along with a message saying “Hull celebrates the Platinum Jubilee”.

However, some eagle-eyed residents have pointed out that a teacup on the poster has the number 60 on it, rather than 70, reflecting the reign of the Queen.

One resident said: “Hull City Council has made a big mistake on one of its signs about the Platinum Jubilee. Instead of saying 70 years, it has put 60 years.”

Another added: “Once you see it, you can’t unsee it. It is very obvious so I don’t know how they did not notice it.”

A Hull City Council spokesman said: “We became aware of this error last week and have corrected the artwork where possible.

“We apologise for the mistake, but wouldn’t want this to distract from the bumper weekend of Platinum Jubilee celebrations coming to Hull next month.

“Across four days, the city will come to life with street parties and family fun, including street entertainers and a stage for local acts in the city centre. We hope everyone will come along and celebrate this historic milestone.”

Hull City Council has announced plans for a “bumper Jubilee weekend event” packed with fun activities for all the family. The city centre streets will be brought to life with red, white and blue decorations, stages, children’s activities and a whole host of family entertainment, in the free-to-attend celebration.

Garry Taylor, assistant director for major projects, culture and place, said: “Across the four days, key areas of the city centre will come to life in true British street-party style and everyone is invited to join the celebrations.

“We will be working closely with partners and stakeholders to offer a huge range of activities and entertainment for all ages, there really will be something for everyone.”

The Humber estuary will provide the backdrop for a spectacular celebration to mark the Jubilee. The Humber Platinum Jubilee Flotilla will see 70 vessels sail from Minerva Pier, next to Hull Marina, to the Humber Bridge, with spectators gathering on the banks to view the historic event, on Thursday, June 2.

Hull businesses are also coming together to launch a family-friendly game about the Platinum Jubilee, which can be played using a smartphone. The trail runs throughout Hull city centre until June 12.
