A HULL man used Snapchat to target a young girl and asked her to send “sexy pics” of herself.

Liam Gill, who was 18 at the time, added the 15-year-old girl on the social media app. A court heard how he knew the girl’s boyfriend and had told her to split up with him.

He then asked the girl inappropriate sexual questions and began talking to her about his private parts. Gill, now 20, and previously of Sandford Close, Hull, admitted to engaging in sexual communication with a child at Hull Magistrates’ Court.

James Byatt, prosecuting, told the court between December 27 and 30, 2020, Gill added the 15-year-old girl on Snapchat. He asked her how old she was and said he was 18.

He told her “age is just a number” and proceeded to engage in communication for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification. He asked her for “sexy pics” of herself, talked about sexual intercourse and made comments about male genitalia.

Nicholas Clay, mitigating for Gill, told the court Gill suffers from a learning disability and believes he has ADHD. While he has not had a formal diagnosis, he displays signs of ADHD, Mr Clay said.

He requested for the court to allow the probation service to interview Gill to see if he could be suitable for a rehabilitation programme. The court heard how Gill has since moved to Braintree in Essex to live with his mother.

Due to the five-hour commute Gill was required to make to attend Hull Magistrates’ Court, District Judge Mark Daley allowed for his sentence to be heard at Essex Magistrates’ Court on July 4 instead.
