Young people will suffer from Tory policies

-

AS a retired couple living solely on the state pension, my wife and I are living a comfortable life. But it is our young working people who are bearing the brunt of the fiscal policies of this incompetent, selfserving government.

We no longer run a car or go on foreign holidays, after all we have done it all before. Our outgoings are minimal and we are free of debt.

We were born just before the Attley/labour government brought in the NHS and the Welfare State, because what went before reads like a horror story for the working people of this country.

They also embarked on a massive inoculation programme, eradicating diseases such as tuberculosis, measles, scarlet fever, mumps, which could be fatal to children back in the day.

Poorer kids were given food supplements such as malt, milk and orange juice for extra nutrition.

People were also given free access to opticians and dentists. Try getting a dentist today on the NHS.

All paid for by the National Insurance stamp. And remember this was all done three years after the end of the Second World War, when our country was on its knees financially.

We must stop this Tory government from dragging us back to the bad old days. They pander to big business, the rich and the wealthy, because they are their financial patrons.

The rest of us are a second thought, especially hard working youngsters of this country. You know, the real wealth creators.

If you have never voted before, get yourselves registered before the next general election and vote for a government who have you and your families’ interests at heart. It is your choice. And no, they are not all the same.

Ted Sawden, Bransholme.
