Family pub shuts for huge makeover costing £130,000
RENOVATION WORK WILL TAKE TWO WEEKS
ONE of East Yorkshire’s bestknown family pubs is to undergo a huge refurbishment.
With its charming thatched roof and attractive beer garden, the Warton Arms, Woodmansey, looks like it has been a fixture of East Yorkshire life for centuries. In fact, it was built in the 1990s and has been a popular draw ever since.
Now, the pub, which is part of the Marston’s chain but is known for its homely and traditional feel, is to get a major makeover, thanks to a £130,000 investment.
It closed yesterday, following the bank holiday weekend, for two weeks of work, before reopening on Tuesday, May 23.
Bosses hope the new look “will elevate the pub’s interior to suit all occasions, from casual lunches to special celebrations”.
In addition to the refurbishment, the pub will also introduce a new menu. It will serve pub favourites such as steak and ale pie, and new additions such as loaded fries with spicy pulled pork.
The pub will continue to offer a traditional Sunday roast with its homemade Yorkshire
puddings and all the trimmings.
The large, south-facing beer garden will allow guests to drink and dine alfresco.
Emma Cottam the general manager of the pub, said: “We are so excited to announce that the Warton Arms will be receiving a refresh. We have invested £130,000 into breathing new life into our pub, which is much loved by its regulars. We can’t wait to welcome everybody back.”
The refurbishment is also due to create new job opportunities in the back-of-house team. For further details, visit www.warton armspub.co.uk
The Warton Arms was built on the site of the former Dixons Arms pub in Woodmansey. Thatched roofs are rare in East Yorkshire and the straw was brought into the region especially for the purpose.
