Rest up: The Hypnos bed

PREMIER INN LONDON HEATHROW AIRPORT T2 & T3 (BATH ROAD) HOTEL

What: This offering from the UK’S largest hotel brand has rooms from £65 a night and free wi-fi throughout the property. premierinn.com

Where: A five-minute cab ride (£16) or 10-15min bus (£1.65) to the T2 and T3 terminals.

Experience: On arrival I was warmly welcomed by Grazel at reception and headed from a cheery central atrium with reception, bar and restaurant to a long, drab corridor to my room. It was clean, reasonably sized with Premier Inn’s excellent Hypnos bed, a desk, good quality tea and coffee making facilities, sofa bed, a bench for a case, HD flatscreen TV and a bathroom with a decent shower and swanky Baylis & Harding amenities.

Plugs and USB points would be just about enough for two people with several devices.

The bar and dining atrium area is substantial, airy and was reasonably busy, but I was served very quickly at the bar.

Book a table at the Thyme restaurant as soon as you arrive as it’s inevitably very popular.

The chicken and bacon caesar salad with garlic flatbreads (£11.99) was lovely; service from Mario was impeccable, and various meal deals are available.

Back in my room, with an early start, I was grateful for not a hint of aircraft noise from the adjacent runway. I passed on breakfast at the hotel and waited until I was airside at T3.

Quibbles: An older property and tired in parts – but that’s not a deal-breaker.

Verdict: Convenient, super friendly and a steal at £65 if you can snag that price. Lots to like and deservedly busy. Would stay again any time. 9½/10
