It’s been honour to play for the Tigers, says exiting Elder

Callum Elder says Hull City will be a club that remains firmly entrenched in his heart as he prepares to leave the MKM Stadium after four years in East Yorkshire, and more than a century of appearances.

Elder’s contract at City ends this summer and the Australian international has been told by Liam Rosenior that he will not be offered fresh terms, and wasn’t included in the final day draw at Luton Town.

The left-back, who joined City after leaving Leicester City played 137 times for the Tigers, including playing a crucial role in the memorable League One title win in 2020-21, which also saw him named in the league’s Team of the Season alongside George Honeyman.

Rosenior’s decision to allow the 28-year-old to move on was the first of what’s expected to be a number of big decisions over the coming weeks, as he looks to stamp his authority on the squad ahead of a promotion challenge next term.

Elder, though, says he parts the Tigers on good terms, having made some memorable memories, and friends for life during his spell in the black and amber.

“It’s been an incredible honour to have played for @hullcity for the last 4 years. Hull has become a home to me and I have met people who I now value as friends for life,” Elder wrote on Instagram.

“I’ve shared a dressing room with some special people and through both the successes and struggles we always stuck together, and I’m proud to have been a part of that.

“To the fans that have stuck by me in my time here thank you, I have read all of your messages and I appreciate you all. The football club is in a strong place with an incredible owner, and I’m looking forward to seeing the team achieve even more in the years to come.

“I’m excited for the next chapter and I will always hold my time at this special football club in the highest regard.”
