KR blow as Coote is out for four weeks
WILLIE Peters has confirmed that Lachlan Coote will be unavailable for at least a month after scans have shown a tear in his hamstring.
Coote hobbled off the field during the seventh minute of Rovers’ 28-0 victory over Huddersfield Giants.
Jake Connor dabbed a grubber kick through that was collected by Coote on the high bounce.
However, as he stepped to evade the tackle of Kevin Naiqama, the Australian collapsed to the floor as he tried to break away, going down in a heap before leaving the field.
After undergoing scans on Tuesday afternoon, the outcome is a negative one for the club, who will be without their star fullback for at least four weeks.
Throw in half-back Jordan Abdull who is still around six weeks away from returning, and
Peters is running with a depleted spine for the foreseeable future.
The Robins do have options out the back, with Peters confirming that either Mikey Lewis or Ethan Ryan will take Coote’s spot for the time being.
If the former is chosen, Jez Litten will partner Rowan Milnes in the halves. If Ryan gets the nod, Litten will continue his usual role off the bench as the substitute dummy half.
The best-case scenario will see Coote miss the games against Warrington Wolves, Batley Bulldogs, Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils in the opening game of Magic Weekend 2023 at St James’ Park.
