Taylor: It’s not about me, I’m proud of everyone

-

SCOTT Taylor’s late try for Hull FC at Wakefield was the 50th of his career.

It was a big one for the

32-year-old prop, a sense of relief after being stuck on 49 for a few weeks.

Finishing the 26-6 win at Wakefield, Taylor scored Hull’s fourth and final try, powering over to complete a stern performance in the middle of the park.

“I’m happy to score,” Taylor told the Mail. “Obviously, it’s not about that but someone reminded me a week or two ago that I was on career try 49.

“I thought ‘Why have they told me that?’ If I retire on 49 I’ll be devastated. But now I’ve got the 50th I’m not bothered if I don’t score again in the rest of my career.

“Obviously, I’d like to but putting me aside, it was all about the teamwork, the desire, turning up for each other in that first half, not getting frustrated, believing in the system and working hard for each other. I’m really proud of everyone. It’s not about me, it’s about the full 17. Everyone had a dig.”

Hull got their third win in a row with victory in West Yorkshire.

The Black and Whites backed up recent home wins over Huddersfield and Wigan, edging further away from the bottom of the table.

Staying positive throughout, that belief and confidence was always there, even when things were at the peak of the doom and gloom.

“That positivity has been there all year,” Taylor continued. “It was a really weird one. We’d lost seven in a row but it wasn’t like runs of losses I’ve had at the club before. Everyone was buying in, Tony was turning up every day and everyone was buying into Tony, we were all positive. That’s the difference. If you went around the place, you’d never know we’d lost seven in a row.

“We got a good win at Huddersfield, backed it up against Wigan - we weren’t great in the second half but saw the effort, desire, defensive steel, which we’ve lacked at times - but new systems and just taking it week by week, we didn’t want to be complacent.

“Wakey were probably thinking it’d be a winnable game for them. They’ve been battling away. We came here with a good attitude and we did that. We have been complacent (before) and didn’t do that. People might say we were only six nil up at half-time but I thought we played really well in the first half.

We just didn’t have enough ball but we had steel in ‘D’ and when we did have the ball we were a threat.

“We have to realise as well that Clifford’s been brilliant for us but it’s only Truey’s second game in 10 months. It will take time for him and Jake to gel but you can see when it’s clicking and a few more games together it will be even better.”

And as for Taylor himself, he knows it’s been tough at times over the last couple of years, but now it’s about giving everything each week and seeing where it takes him and this Hull side.

“I’m just going to keep working hard, keep enjoying it,” Taylor added. “I love playing for this team, this club and you’ll keep seeing me give my all, working hard on and off the field and doing everything I can to help us be a success this year. Whatever Tony needs from me I’ll always be out there and giving my all.

“Performances haven’t always been consistently there but with me, Mint, and some of the other boys, we work really hard.

“When we cross that white line we’re under scrutiny but we are working hard, and we’ll give 100 percent for this club every time.”
