CITY YOUNG GUNS AIM FOR FINAL SPOT

-

TALENTED youngster Oliver Green has billed today’s play-off showdown at Millwall as the biggest game of his fledgling career, as Hull City’s Under-21s go in search of a place in the final.

A terrific run of three straight wins saw the Tigers end the campaign in second behind Sheffield United and ahead of Wigan Athletic courtesy of their 60 goals scored, including five in a thumping final day win at Charlton Athletic.

Their prize is a trip to The Den to take on the winners of the Southern division, an occasion Tigers skipper Green is relishing.

“I am looking forward to Monday; it is the biggest game of my career I would say,” Green told the Mail. “I don’t think I have ever played in a game like this, although I have been on the bench for the first team against Wigan in the EFL Cup last season.

“It is a massive achievement for the team. We have worked hard all season. About five or six weeks ago it wasn’t in reach, but we have had a strong month. We have taken to the gaffer’s (Liam Rosenior) style of play well with Conor (Sellars) and Richard (Naylor)’s help and we have shown how good we can be.

“We went into the game against Charlton having lost to them twice (in the Premier League Cup); we owed them.

“Over the last month, we have gone into every game believing we are going to win.”

Owing to the nature of the north and south divide, City played Millwall earlier in the campaign at the MKM, losing 1-0, though Green believes that was a harsh outcome.

“It will be a tough game. It was our first game of the season at the MKM,” he continued. “I think we should have won. I think they got a goal in the opening minute. They have only lost three games, but we owe them.”

Should City prevail in South London this afternoon, they would play the winners of Sheffield United and Bristol City.
