A HOLDERNESS brewery gearing up for an annual festival of beer, food and live music has lodged its bid to get the go-ahead from East Riding Council.

Great Newsome Brewery’s licence application lodged with the council comes ahead of its Festivale for this year, set to be held over Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 17.

The application stated that up to 800 people are expected to attend the open-air festival, which raises money for local charities.

The brewery held its first Festivale since 2019 last year after the coronavirus pandemic stopped the event going ahead. This year’s Festivale also comes after Great Newsome Brewery marked its 15th anniversary in 2022.

The event will take place on a field next to the brewery in South Frodingham, Winestead, if the council approves its licence application.

It would see artists play sets with 15 to 20-minute breaks in between on both days, beginning on the Friday at 6pm until 10pm.

The event would restart at 1pm on the Saturday and finish at 10pm.

The line-up of acts currently includes guitarist and vocalist Lucy Taylor along with the bands Bad Guys Don’t Knock and The Pub Lads on the Friday evening.

Saturday would see folk singer Sharon Garner play along with bands Low Flying Crow, Fiddlers Elbow, Big River Boys, Lockwood and The Zynx. Beers planned for Festivale include Sleck Dust, Picky Back Otchan, Frothingham Best and Holderness Dark.

Food vendors currently lined up are Shiok Street Food serving South East Asian cuisine, All Fired Up Pizzeria, Northern Pourists and The Dogs hot dog vendor.

Great Newsome Brewery’s application stated its sound system would not exceed 107db, in line with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance.

Camping is set to be available, starting at £10 a night.

General admission costs £10 for Friday and £15 for Saturday, with saver tickets for both priced at £20. Each ticket includes a free drink of either beer, cider or a glass of wine.

Under 18s can go for free but they will need to be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are available at www. greatnewsomebrewery.co.uk/shop/ events/festivale-2023-tickets

The charities supported this year are Hornsea Inshore Rescue and Hull Animal Welfare Trust.
