ALFIE Jones is keen to repay the faith shown in him by Hull City boss Liam Rosenior after the Tigers defender penned a new three-year contract at the MKM Stadium.

Jones was in the final year of his City deal, and though the club held the option of extending it by 12 months, they’ve agreed a new deal until the summer of 2026, including another 12-month option at the end of it.

Talks had been ongoing for a number of weeks with Jones and his representatives, but a deal has now been struck to extend his three-year stay in East Yorkshire.

“It was a very easy decision,” Jones said. “Like I’ve said in interviews before, I wanted to commit my future to the club, so it makes it easy and I’m glad it’s done now.

“It feels like a home here and for any player, that’s massive. It allows me to concentrate on my football, so it was a no-brainer and it gives me that security, so I can fully focus on the pitch now.”

So good has Jones been this term, he was Rosenior’s Player of the Year at the club’s end-of-season awards ceremony earlier this month.

That recognition of his consistency throughout the Championship campaign has given him an added boost.

Rosenior is well underway with his plans to evolve City’s squad ahead of what he hopes will be a promotion surge next term.

Key to his strategy will be Jones and central defensive partner Sean Mcloughlin.

Jones says having that responsibility and belief from his manager is crucial, and will only help him continue to develop as a consistent defender at Championship level.

“To get the recognition from the manager is massive. It gave me a really big confidence boost and hopefully, it gives me a platform to build on for next season,” the 25-year-old said.

“It gives you that confidence boost and makes me want to repay him with my performances and make

sure I’m putting them in on the pitch.

“Speaking to him about my future, the direction of the club, how that’s going and for me, that aligns with how I want to go in my career.

“It gives you more confidence again. To have that behind me is massive, I just want to go and repay him now and perform on the pitch and I’m excited for the future at this club.”
