Ethan Ryan claims Hull KR have unfinished business

-

OVER a year on from Hull KR’S exit from the 2022 Challenge Cup one game away from Wembley, Ethan Ryan is desperate to go that one step further with the Robins before he leaves Craven Park.

Ryan played on the wing at Elland Road as Huddersfield

Giants eased past a flat Rovers side that saw their season start to crumble that day.

However, this is a new era for the Red and Whites under Willie Peters and the Bookmakers are tipping the club to go far in the cup once again.

A potential banana skin awaits Ryan and Rovers this evening as they welcome Batley Bulldogs to HU9.

In a competition that means so much to him, the Irish flyer wants to put the record straight and lay down a marker in the cup after last year’s frustrations.

“We need to stick to what we are doing, and we should get the job done,” said Ryan.

“We have talked all week about how easy it is to overplay these games. You shouldn’t. You can hurt yourself by doing too much.

“We will stick to what has worked since the start of Super League and replicate that.

“For me, the Challenge Cup is really special. I’ve played in some good games in the past with Bradford, we got to the semi last year and we missed out on getting to the final. That hurt a lot.

“We’ve got some unfinished business in the cup and I think we can do something special this year.”

On tonight’s opponents, Ryan knows Batley well from his time in the second tier.

The Bulldogs have punched above their weight in recent years, nearly reaching Super League in 2022 with such a low budget compared to the likes of Leigh Leopards, Featherstone Rovers and Toulouse Olympique.

Ryan is full of respect for Batley and his teammates know they won’t be given a free pass into the quarter-final, they’ll have to earn their spot.

He added; “I’ve played Batley a few times. They are a really good Championship side that you cannot take lightly.

“You look at their team and they have plenty of ability and are well-coached.

“We know they will be up for it because we are a league above. You know what you are going to get.”
