SPORTSWEAR CHARITY TO OPEN NEW STORE IN BRANSHOLME

A SPORTSWEAR charity is set to open its second Hull store – in Bransholme’s North Point shopping centre – offering big brand names and heavily discounted sportwear.

Sports Traider opened its first shop in Hull in Orchard Park in 2021, the chain being the first of its kind anywhere in Britain. Founded by Lance Haggith, a former recipient of an Unsung Hero at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards, Sports Traider sell upcycled sportswear and use the profits to support local community projects in the surrounding area.

Since launching its first store in Hull, the charity has spread across the country, opening stores in Grimsby, Leeds, and Newcastle, among others. Now, Sports Traider is preparing to open its 14th branch at the North Point shopping centre – and are recruiting volunteers to work in the shop.

In a post on Facebook, Sports Traider Hull posted: “We have another new store opening in Hull!! Very soon, North Point Shopping Centre. After the success of our

Orchard Park Store we are now opening another Sports Traider Hull @ North Point Shopping Centre (Bransholme).

“We are looking for reliable volunteers who would like to be part of our already successful team to enhance the importance of our charity for our local community to make a difference, if you are interested please contact nnormington@ hotmail.co.uk. Hope to hear from you soon, Neil.”

Sports Traider’s mission is to “provide or assist in the provision of facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure time occupation of children and adults who have need of such facilities by reason of disability, financial hardship and/or social circumstances”.

Speaking to Hull Live in 2021, founder Lance Haggith said: “We are delighted to be opening in Hull and looking forward to helping more community projects in going forward. The support from the local area has already been second to none and to see what was a derelict shop now being used to benefit local people is brilliant.”

“After starting out as a youth centre we primarily looked after young carers but then I started to notice children coming in without coats or sports footwear because they could not afford them, so I started to go into schools to ask for any unwanted equipment or training shoes and distributed them to children.

“We firmly believe that community sport is an essential part of society and should be available for all – never an inaccessible luxury.

“We have opened shops up and down the country and all the communities we operate in face similar challenges. It really is about creating a level playing field, we want all kids to have the same chances, that’s what we are about.”
