Tigers must upgrade their starting line-up

TO SPLASH HUGE AMOUNT OF CASH

HULL City will have to box clever in the transfer market this summer.

After spending significant sums last year on the likes of Ozan Tufan, Dogukan Sinik and Allahyar Sayyadmanesh, expect the Tigers to go about their business in a different manner this time around.

The chances are head coach Liam Rosenior will have a limited amount of money to spend on transfer fees.

City’s hierarchy are working within financial constraints, with the club mindful of the need to comply with Financial Fair Play rules.

How effectively City use the loan market could hold the key to their hopes of mounting a serious promotion challenge.

Whoever comes in needs to upgrade the starting XI.

It is hugely important Rosenior’s squad get their recruitment right if they are to compete in the upper reaches of the Championship.

Strengthening their attacking options will be at the top of Rosenior’s priority list as he prepares for his first full season at the helm.

City scored a paltry 51 goals in 46 matches during the 2022-23 campaign.

Do the Tigers have to completely revamp their forward line? No. Oscar Estupinan has proven he can hack it at Championship level, hitting 13 goals in his first year of English football.

His form tailed off in the second half of the season but the forward was also hampered by a pre-existing ankle injury.

However, the jury is still out on Benjamin Tetteh, while Aaron Connolly has returned to Brighton and Hove Albion following a mixed loan spell.

More quality is needed at the top end of the pitch.

The challenge now facing Rosenior is to bring in somebody to either push Estupinan for a place in the team or to play alongside him, depending on what formation City set up in.

Rosenior will want variation in their play so expect a wide player or two to come in as well to give them extra creativity and threat in the final third.
