FREE GRASSROOTS FESTIVAL COMING TO COTTINGHAM
A NEW music festival has been launched in Cottingham following the cancellation of the Springboard Festival earlier this year.
Having continuously grown since its inception in 2006 as a one-day event in the King William IV pub, it quickly became one of the most anticipated weekends on the calendar before its shock cancellation, leaving many musicians and music lovers in the dark.
However, a new event is set to take over. Spring Fest will take all the existing traditions of Springboard much to the delight of all.
Spring Fest is the evolution of the Cottingham music scene and a huge aspect of the village says organiser Lewis Mennell.
“The response has been amazing. It was a mad rush for me and Jamie [co-organiser] to get things going. The shops see a lot of footfall that weekend, it means a lot not just to the local area, but to the people who embrace it because it brings a lot of trade to the town and gives it that buzz.”
“With music fans and those who come to Springboard, it’s more than seeing acts, it’s about networking.”
Over 150 different acts have all been confirmed to play across eight different venues in the village. In tradition with the grassroots festival before Spring Fest, some of these acts will be given their first taste of a live audience.
The free Spring Fest comes to Cottingham on Friday to Sunday this week. Visit www.cottinghamspringboard.com
