A FORMER Hull go-karting centre could be converted into a warehouse under plans lodged with the council.

Tradepark Ltd’s application would see Hull Raceway, in the Sutton Fields industrial estate, converted into industrial storage space.

Applicants stated the plans would see the former leisure building repurposed for industrial use after standing vacant.

The plans come after Hull Raceway closed in April 2019, six years after it first got permission to convert a Stockholm Road industrial unit into a go-karting track.

The company said at the time of the closure that it had decided not to renew its lease on the building and move on.

It added it had not reopened the business anywhere else. Hull Raceway opened in Sutton Fields industrial estate in 2015, two years after the council’s Planning Committee

backed its bid to take on a unit there.

It advertised itself as Hull’s premier indoor karting venue with a purpose-built track inside the unit that could be used all year round. Its track featured straights, chicanes and hair-pin bends, which the company said made for great racing.

The track was open to all ages with junior karts available for those aged eight and over to book for parties and other events. It also offered an “Arrive and Drive” experience for people looking to race on their own or with groups of friends.

Hull Raceway also worked with charities by offering them vouchers and sponsored football teams. But one charity was caught out by the track’s closure in 2019.

Scunthorpe charity Magic Moments paid a £200 deposit for 18 people to go racing there but arrived to find it shut and its phone number out of service. Charity chair Pat Ebbs said it was heartbreaking and devastating, adding she felt cheated.

A spokesman for Hull Raceway said it was never their intention for the money to be cashed and sent them a refund. The company added it was devastated that the children were left upset.
