LANE AIMS TO BE REAL STAR

FC BACK-ROWER ON REVENGE MISSION AGAINST SALFORD

HULL FC’S Jordan Lane wants to right some wrongs at Salford Red Devils tomorrow.

Back in March, Hull leaked 60 points with Lane hooked off the field in the first half.

That hurt the back-rower, who debuted in 2018 and who showed great promise and guile as a young player.

Now, he wants to get back to those levels, and prove to himself and everyone around him that he can still do it.

“I’ve racked up over 100 Super League games now, so I’m out of the bracket and the safe zone of being a young lad,” Lane explained.

“I haven’t had the best start to the year, but I’m always looking for ways to improve, and in the last couple of weeks I feel like I’ve shown what I can bring to the team.

“I started slow, and it showed against Salford at home. I got dragged off after 30 minutes, and I didn’t come back on because of the way I was playing.

“That one hit home with me. It really upset me that week. From then on, I wanted to knuckle down and get back to how I was playing a couple of years ago.”

Targeting a big display at the AJ Bell Stadium, the 25-year-old is ready to give his all. He’s ready to do more in both facets of the game and continue the upturn of his last two matches.

“I’m looking to rectify my performance in the first game against Salford now,” Lane continued.

“I can’t change the score-line, but I think we owe them one, and I owe it to myself as well to put in a performance. I’m trying to put myself about in attack and defence; that’s one of the reasons why I haven’t been happy with myself.

“I haven’t been putting my hand up, and my work rate hasn’t been where it should have been. “I need to do more going forward; I’ve still got cracks, and I’m trying to figure them out and look on the up from here.

“The best thing I can do is my line running; that’s what I pride myself on, hitting lines and making opportunities for my halfback, so I’ll keep focusing on doing that.”

As for Hull, things have picked up after seven defeats, with four wins in a row to go with the two they got at the start of the season.

The players are now starting to click and get more familiar with the new methods and systems instructed by head coach Tony Smith.

“We had a bit of a ropey start to the season, but we’ve got back on track now,” Lane added.

“I feel like we’ve got a bit of momentum, and everything is starting to click.

“When Tony came in, bringing Stan (Gene), a lot of things changed; personnel changed; we had a whole new spine, so it took a bit of time to adjust.

“Going on that seven-game losing run, there was a lot of stuff that we needed to rectify; there were still some cracks from previous years and players having old habits from old coaches.

“Tony has brought in a new style of defence, and it’s taken a lot of adjusting. We’ve been trying to perfect it, and we’re still striving now to get where he wants us to be.”
