A NEW adventure centre is opening in east Hull as a karting track expands to mark its 20th anniversary.

Visitors to the high-octane go-karting track, Hull Karting, will be able to enjoy a bigger and better experience from this week with the launch of the Hull Adventure Centre at the site in Poorhouse Lane, off Preston Road.

The new activities on offer will include archery-tag, bubble-ball football and dodgeball.

It is hoped that these activities will encourage more people to use the centre. The expansion has also created new local jobs.

Archery-tag is a combat game in the style of paintballing, which involves teams armed with bows and (safe) arrows. In bubble-ball football, meanwhile, players are encased in zorb-like bubbles and have to bash into opponents to get the ball.

Cllr Paul Drake-davis, Hull City Council’s portfolio holder for regeneration, will unveil a plaque at the centre on Wednesday to mark the 20th anniversary of the karting track.

He said: “This is an exciting time for Hull Karting. The fact that it has managed to reach its 20th anniversary and to coordinate that with the launch of the new Hull Adventure Centre is fantastic.

“It will no doubt bring enjoyment to both those invited to the launch day and visitors moving forward.”

John Haines, Hull Adventure Centre manager, said: “This will be a momentous day for Hull Karting and the Hull Adventure Centre. “I cannot wait to welcome people along, both on February 28, and in the coming weeks and months.

“This will help to sustain our facility’s future, while also providing accessible provisions for the people of Hull and its visitors.”

About 40 young people from Hull will be the first to sample what is on offer at Hull Adventure Centre, also on Wednesday.

The guests are from the council’s Room 42, a project that supports care-experienced young people, and the Warren Youth Project, which is based in the city centre.

A new Hull Adventure Centre website will then launch on Friday, March 1, where people will be able to book activities for themselves.
