Schneider on his time at Rovers

-

BRAD Schneider, pictured, has described his short stint at Hull KR as the best time of his life.

The Australian had a memorable spell at Craven Park, playing a crucial role in the runs that saw them reach the Challenge Cup Final and play-off semifinals.

Schneider was back in the UK as part of Penrith Panthers’ travelling party for the World Club Challenge, allowing him to reflect on his time in Super League. Schneider ultimately did not play, but that disappointment was just another lesson learned on UK soil after his time with Rovers.

The halfback memorably produced match-winning drop goals against Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors in the Challenge Cup semi-final, before helping them to further success. There were also plenty of disappointments, with the Challenge Cup Final a particular low point for Schneider, who crucially didn’t find touch with a penalty in extra time.

But it was an overall positive experience for both parties and he said: “It was the best four months of my life. It was a very big decision, but I’m so glad I did it.

“I had so many highs and then so many lows that helped me learn a lot, especially in my football career. Being under Willie and having good leaders like Shaun Kenny-dowall and Kane Linnett, I learned so much. It was a very good experience.

“That’s why it was one of the best times, because it had so many highs and then what happened at Wembley, but the lessons alone from that game teach you a lot. They’re the sort of lessons you need to learn and once you do, it makes you a better player. It’s always hard to get to a stage like that and lose, but the things it teaches you, if you want to be successful, that’s what you’ve got to have.”
