Rovers face wait on injured trio for clash with Broncos
HULL KR head coach Willie Peters has admitted that Dean Hadley and Joe Burgess are both doubts for Friday’s visit of
London Broncos.
The pair have sustained slight injury issues that could see them miss Friday’s Craven Park bout against the newly-promoted side.
Hadley, who has started all but one of Rovers’ games so far this season, is dealing with a calf issue that Peters has confirmed will need monitoring as the week goes on.
Meanwhile, Burgess has an unspecified problem, which also means his involvement is unclear after scoring two tries in the derby last week.
Centre Oliver Gildart could come back into contention after he missed last week’s game due to a concussion, though he is currently passing the protocols in place before being cleared to return to the field.
Despite suffering a slight knock against Hull FC, Tyrone May is good to go.
“There are a few knocks and players that we need to look at later in the week before we make a decision,” Peters said. “We’ll see where it’s at then.” Rovers will go in as overwhelming favourites, but Peters said: “The whole coaching staff have looked thoroughly into
London and they ask a lot of questions.
“If you look at their attack they ask a lot of questions and we have to be on defensively like we have been.
“With the ball, we need to ask questions of them and put fatigue in them.
“It’s an important game after a derby. We want to pride ourselves on being up again after a derby, some teams may drop intensity after a spike but we pride ourselves on staying at the levels where we want to be at.” Peters has been impressed with the response of his side so far, indicating that a good performance could be around the corner.
“We gave the boys three days off, they deserved that, they earned that, and it was back to work today,” he said.
“We made sure as a group that we set our standards high and we lived up to them.
“We’ve just had a good session and that’s what it’s about, next job mentality.
“Last week has gone, it was an emotional week, the players had three days to spend with their families and do what they need to do away from Craven Park. “I saw players at the gym yesterday doing recovery, I went to the local gym myself and that was really pleasing to see.
“That’s how I know we’ve got an engaged group who know when they’re away from the club what it takes to be professional.”
