City receive timely selection boost

-

HULL City will welcome back influential defender Jacob Greaves for what Liam Rosenior has described as Saturday’s must-win trip to Cardiff City.

Greaves missed both games over the Easter weekend through suspension and his loss was keenly felt by City who lost against Stoke City on Good Friday and then at Leeds United on Monday night.

The 23-year-old graduate of the Tigers academy has been one of the most in-form defenders in the Championship this season, but having picked up a 10th booking of the campaign against Leicester City before the international break, he was forced to miss successive games. But having him back for the trip to South Wales will be a welcome boost for Rosenior.

Rosenior had, as expected, drafted in Sean Mcloughlin for the visit of the Potters last Friday, but the Irishman was dropped at Elland Road with the Tigers head coach opting for a surprise reshuffle which saw skipper Lewie Coyle play alongside Alfie Jones in the middle of the back four, and Regan Slater deployed on the right side of the defence with Tyler Morton back in midfield partnering Jean Michael Seri.

Greaves has missed just three games this season, playing 36 of City’s 39 games, with those three he has sat out coming through suspension. While he’s been crucial at the back, his two goals and four assists at the other end have also been important and his return will be welcomed by Rosenior, who knows time is running out for his side to regain some momentum in their ailing quest for the top six.

Rosenior will also hope both Ryan Giles and Coyle are fit to travel to the principality, having both limped out of the action in West Yorkshire. Both needed ice packs in the dressing room at full time, with Giles going off with a groin problem while Coyle hurt his back in an aerial collision.
