We’re excited about what’s ahead for us, says Robins’ Peters

HULL KR head coach Willie Peters says there is a real excitement at the club, but insists nobody will be allowed to get ahead of themselves for a crucial period of the season.

Peters has declared his KR squad are in a better position than this time last year, with the Australian delighted to see the progress being made on and off the field.

Rovers have a third successive Challenge Cup semi-final to look forward to next month and are fourth in Super League, two points off table-topping Catalans Dragons, who they visit this Saturday.

The Dragons clash is swiftly followed by successive home games against Wigan and St Helens, before a trip to Warrington and then that semifinal date in a replay of last year’s game with Wigan.

It’s a schedule to get even the most reserved of KR fans giddy with excitement, and Peters shares that sentiment.

The KR coach accepts the fevered anticipation of some for what could be an enthralling and entertaining run of games which may end by securing another Wembley berth, but the excitement of taking on the leaders is enough for now.

“The club has worked hard to be in a position to compete in big games, but there’s so much that will happen between now and the Challenge Cup semi-final,” explained Peters.

“We are very excited about what is to come, but we are first very excited about this Saturday and going over to Catalans.”

Rovers head to France on a five-match winning run, with almost a fully fit squad available and with his team having shown enough to convince they’ll be top four contenders.

Now in his second year in charge, the KR coach says his side are not just in a better position this year, but that his players are enjoying themselves and showing the sort of unity that breeds the culture you need to challenge.

He added; “If you ask me after round 20 we are in the same position, but we are not getting ahead of ourselves. I know how hard the players work and how hard pre-season was, and the detail the players went into.

“In terms of all that we are progressing, we are in a better spot than we were last year.

“Why is that? We’ve been together another year, we brought in some new players and we got the mix right. The players are working hard.

“The feedback we are in everyone seems happy and we pride ourselves on being a family club and looking after our players.

“We have a good crew who look after each other. I’d like to think everyone who has come over is enjoying themselves.”
