Liam’s done a fabulous job, but I think City will miss out

-

FORMER EFL boss Tony Pulis believes Hull City will miss out on a place in the play-offs despite the Tigers winning 3-2 at Coventry on Wednesday night to breathe fresh life into their hopes.

Liam Rosenior’s side notched up an 11th away win courtesy of goals from Jaden Philogene, Fabio Carvalho and Noah Ohio to close the gap on West Brom and Norwich to three points with two games to go.

City remain seventh owing to their inferior goal difference and face Ipswich Town tonight, three hours after Pulis’ former club West Brom face Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough and the Canaries host Swansea City.

Pulis, who managed more than 1,100 professional games, has praised the work done by City this season in going from a mid-table side to one capable of challenging for promotion, but feels the step will be too far this time round.

“Liam Rosenior has done a fabulous job, but so has Acun Ilıcalı in terms of backing him. I think they’ll just miss out this year, though, so I hope they’ve got a good relationship,” Pulis told OLBG.

“I think they’ll be back next year, after adding one or two others.

“I hope Rosenior will be given an even better opportunity to get them up next year.

“But he will be under pressure next season given the money that they’ve spent.

“I do think he’s a top young manager.

“He’s a little bit inexperienced but will be learning as he goes along.”

Pulis also had praise for Norwich, who he believes will secure that final play-off berth, particularly given the rumours which engulfed Carrow Road earlier in the campaign that the German would be fired after a lacklustre start to the campaign.

“Norwich have done enough, it will be Norwich, meaning Hull City will miss out. I’ve liked the fact that Norwich City gave

David Wagner time to turn things around,” the 66-year-old continued.

“The time they’re given now isn’t long enough. I remember speaking to an experienced manager who said you need the first year to assess what’s going on, the second year to implement the changes needed and you must be successful in the third year or you’ll get the sack.

“That was several years ago, too, and things are just getting worse.

“That’s the way the world is with things like social media, Chairmen need to be more trustworthy and diligent than some of them are.”
