FC duo could return for Tigers clash

-

HULL FC forward duo Jack Ashworth and Brad Fash both have a fighting chance of returning to action for the Castleford Tigers fixture later this month.

Ashworth has been missing for the last month with a broken thumb, whereas Fash hasn’t played competitively this year after suffering a serious ankle injury in pre-season. However, both players have had surgeries and are now closing in on their returns.

The Black and Whites, meanwhile, have a week off after this Sunday’s game at London Broncos before heading to West Yorkshire on Friday, May 24, with interim head coach Simon Grix giving an encouraging update in his pre-match press conference.

“Jack isn’t a million miles off,” Grix explained. “We didn’t get anything fresh at the weekend. We got the usual bumps and bruises, but there’s nothing to worry about. He’s doing alright. It was a thumb operation. If it was Grand Final stuff, he’d be putting himself in for this week, but we’ll look at Jack for the game after this one.

“Fash also has a strong chance. He’s getting closer. We’ll give him as long as he needs, but if he’s cutting it fine and we’ve got a heap of fit middles, we won’t rush him. He’s been hurting watching our games. I was really looking forward to seeing him play this year, having spent pre-season with him.

“I didn’t know too much about him, but I like how he goes about his work, and he’s a valuable member of this team. His work rate and his talk are really important, and we’ve definitely missed him. It would be great to get him out there, but as with any of these injuries, we’re not going to rush him back, but he’s got a very good chance.”
