Cottingham Bank Holiday festival springs into action

COTTINGHAM’S SPRINGFEST MUSIC FESTIVAL HAS PROVED POPULAR AFTER REBRAND

- The latest news from clubland with Dave Norman

THIS coming Spring Bank Holiday weekend sees the return of Springfest Music Festival that takes place in the village of Cottingham. The event was originally known as Springboard Festival but following the cancellation of the long-standing event early last year, the Springfest was formed and has become one of the most anticipated weekends on the festival calendar.

The new event was rebranded and it proved to be extremely popular last year keeping all the existing traditions of Springboard much to the delight of everyone involved in the Cottingham music scene.

Springfest is the evolution of the Cottingham tradition for live music events and a huge feature of the village.

The local area and shops see a lot of footfall over the weekend and means ever such a lot, not just to the local area, but to the people who embrace it bringing a lot of trade to the town.

A spokesperson for the team organising the weekend said: “It gives the area an incredible buzz and with music fans and those who come to Springfest it is much more than hearing quality music, it’s about everyone networking with each other.

Over 150 different acts have all been confirmed to play across eight different venues in the village in tradition with the grassroots festival before Springfest, some of these acts will have the chance of their first taste of a live audience.”

The Cottingham venues that are so far confirmed for the weekend are organised by a selection of key musicians including The King William, which will have two stages Martha’s Bar and Live Lounge run by Lewis Menell.

The Duke of Cumberland will also have two stages Culture Train stage acoustic lounge run by Chris Warcup and the Off The Road courtyard stage, run by Janey Wright and Ellie Pollard.

The Hallgate Tavern will be run by Music HQ’S Darren Bunting and The Tiger Inn features the Africa Studio’ stage run by Dave and Megan Elf.

Raph’s Lounge run by John Lawson, The Cassiel Bar ran by Nick Oldridge, The Woksoever Acoustic Patio stage run by Emily Rivers Thompson.

Other venues who also have a great line-up planned are Café Norah, The Cross Keys and The Blue Bell.

The event is being held this coming weekend at multiple venues from May 24 to 26, and is completely free. Full details can be found on the Cottingham Springfest 24 website.

Also, I’ve been asked to pass on a big “Thank You” to all of the people involved with The Willows Club President’s Charity Night held last week.

The multi-tribute show raised the fabulous sum of £3,000 for the charities Hornsea Inshore Rescue & Pulmonary Fibrosis.
