Produce a polished sound track
1 Import clips
Import our source clips into a new event and choose File>new Movie. Drag ‘Opening Shot’ to the timeline. Add ‘Intro Voice’. Click Settings and tick the ‘Show Waveforms’ box.
2 Boost sound levels
The voice in the second clip is a bit quiet so click the Volume icon. Click the ‘Auto’ button to make the clip sound louder. The clip’s audio waveforms will increase in height.
3 Lower volume
Tick the ‘Lower Volume of other clips’ box. This will cause other clip sound tracks (such as music) to automatically and temporarily fade when they overlap this particular video clip
4 Audio skimming
Choose Window>audio Skimming. This lets you hear audio as you slide the playhead along a clip. At around 14 seconds the girl says ‘sheen’ instead of ‘sheep’.
5 Split and delete
Place the playhead just before she says ’sheen’. Right-click and choose Split Clip. Split the clip again just before ‘sheep’. Delete the section containing the mispronounced word.
6 Hide the jump cut
Place the ‘Cows Cutaway’ clip on a parallel cutaway layer when she mentions cows. This illustrates her speech and hides the jump cut. Add the ‘Bee’ clip as a cutaway.
7 Tweak sound levels
Drag the ‘Bee’ clip’s volume control line down to reduce the clip’s sound levels. Add the ‘River Pan’ and ’Bluebell Link’ clips. Boost the ‘Bluebell Link’ sound levels (see step 2).
8 Bridging cutaway
Add ‘Wier Link’. Place ‘Bluebell Slomo’ on the top layer to link the last two clips together. Click on ‘Wier Link’. Go to Volume. Click ‘Auto’ and tick ‘Lower Volume of other clips’.
9 Background noise
Click the Noise Reduction icon. Tick ‘Reduce Background noise’. Adjust the slider to still preserve voice quality while reducing the hiss of the background water.
