The latest addition to Airpulse’s high-end active speaker range, the A300s follow on the heels of the A200s, reviewed in issue 184 of icreate, and feature many of the same features, albeit on a slightly grander scale.

Designed to impress

The A300 Active Speaker System continues Airpulse’s partnership with esteemed audio designer and bass guitar veteran, Phil Jones, and inherits the same look of the A200s, but with larger cabinets, larger woofers and an Xmos XU216 16-core processor that provides the energy to fill even larger rooms with allencompassing sound that really brings out the finer details and textures in the music. Each cab contains a unique horn-loaded ribbon tweeter, proprietary 6.5-inch aluminium cone, low distortion mid-woofer and low-frequency driver.

The weight alone provides hints that there’s some serious hardware packed within these cherry wood units, but any doubt is instantly banished when you connect them to your device or sound system and start ramping up the volume. On a side note, these speakers come boxed with all of the cables you need to connect them to other audio devices and pairing with them via Bluetooth is a quick and easy operation that only takes a minute or two. Big, bulky but, bloody hell, they do belt it out!
