We are long-term fans of IK Multimedia’s Amplitube apps, virtual guitar studios that allow you to assemble your own pedleboards to mimic the sounds of your idols, experiment with a vast array of modern and vintage amps and record your noodlings every step of the way. Ampiltube MAX is essentially the entire Mac suite, including the Amplitube 4 app and a wealth of expansions, including the rig setups of Slash and Jimi Hendrix, Fender and Orange amps and plenty more, a kind of one price gets all type of deal.

Needless the say that the asking price is significantly lower than the cost of buying every pedal and amp in their physical forms but, incredibly, the tones you hear played back through your Mac speakers are unquestionably authentic. You can obtain the same souring solo sound as Hendrix or Slash’s wailing Gibson screams with any cheap strat copy when played through Ampiltube. This is made possible thanks to the Dynamic Saturation Modelling (DSM) and Volumetric Response Modelling (VRM) technology utilised by the app to obtain hyper-realistic emulation of the real world gear of the greats.

You will need an irig interface to connect your electric guitar to your Mac via USB, but if you really want to maximise the app’s potential then you should consider splashing out for the irig Stomp that enables you to operate the Ampiltube pedals authentically with your foot and apply the right amount of ‘wah’ – something that feels wrong when done using a mouse.
