9 essential tasks for Mojave
1 Check for updates
Immediately after installing macos Mojave you must check for software updates. Not for Mojave, but for other apps on your Mac. They may need them to improve compatibility.
2 Create a backup
Once Mojave is up and running and you know everything is working properly, make a backup. Time Machine can be used, but a utility like Superduper! can clone the disk.
3 Go dark
Open System Preferences>general and select ‘Dark’. There are two more options below: Accent colour and Highlight colour. Select your preferred colour scheme.
4 Get Safari extensions
The old Safari extensions gallery has gone and now extensions are browsed and installed using the redesigned App Store. Open Safari and click Safari>safari Extensions.
5 Choose the desktop
The sand dunes is one of two dynamic desktops that automatically change throughout the day. Go to System Preferences>desktop & Screen Saver. Try the alternative for a day.
6 Configure the Dock
Like the ipad, Mojave has a new section that shows icons for recently used apps. Is this useful or not? Disable or enable it in System Preferences>dock, bottom checkbox.
7 Finder extensions
Finder has new extensions. Go to System Preferences>extensions and select Finder on the left. Use the checkboxes on the right to choose which extensions you want to use.
8 Use Stacks
Stacks tidies up the desktop by organising files into groups. Ctrl+click the desktop and select ‘Use Stacks’. Ctrl+click again and select ‘Group Stacks By’ and select an option.
9 Use Screenshot
If you have been using Grab to take screenshots, it’s gone! Run Screenshot from the Utilities folder or just press Shift+cmd+5. Set the options, like the screenshot type.
