Post 3D photos on Facebook

Want your images to pop from the screen like never before? Then try this fun 3D technique

-

Social networks are battling for your attention in much the same way as those who use them constantly hope for ‘Likes’. The latest salvo in the ongoing war is Facebook’s new 3D photo feature, allowing you to take an image and view it from different perspectives thanks to clever AI processing that creates a wonderful sense of depth.

In order to take such a photo you must have an iphone with a dual-lens camera. This means the feature will only work on an iphone 7 Plus, 8 Plus, X or XS. If you don’t have one of these and you’re feeling a bit miffed right now, take solace in the fact that Facebook has yet to roll it out to potentially compatible Android phones. You can also view the 3D-photos on any phone, so you won’t miss out on the fun entirely.

Choose an image

Now you will see any Portrait images you have taken using your iphone’s camera. Simply select the one that you wish to share with others and start the 3D process.

Convert to 3D

Facebook will automatically process your photo, capturing the distance between the foreground subject and the background. When this is complete tap ‘Next’.

Share your photo

When you move your iphone the image will appear to pop with depth, making it look 3D. You can now share the photo in the usual way, adding a status before tapping ‘Share’.
