Yes, this app may seem expensive when you could ultimately perform the same task for free with Audacity, but it saves you a lot of the manual legwork and is generally significantly easier to use.

When presented with the main interface, getting started with the recording process is simple. You can click on the ‘Check Levels’ button and start playing the album you wish to import to check that the turntable is properly connected and that the sound levels are good, then it is just a case of clicking the ‘Record’ button. At this point you can enter various information, such as artist and album name, then the app will source the album online when you finish recording (and click on ‘Lookup Track Listing’) and automatically assign all of the track names, which the user would have to painstakingly enter manually in Audacity. The app also tells you when to put the needle down on the record and will also start recording automatically, so the finished audio file sounds authentic with just the right intro period, something that can be lost in the time it takes you to get from your record player to your Mac to manually click ‘Record’.

Vinylstudio delivers incredible results and makes it easy to record multiple sides grouped under one recording, add album artwork, edit audio files and export the finished recordings to your itunes library.
