Cropping and composition
Use the Crop tool to improve composition and resize your clips
Sometimes we can’t control the elements that appear in a scene. For example, we may find a person has strayed into the edge of the frame. Fortunately, imovie enables us to crop a shot to lose unwanted edge objects. Cropping the clip also helps distant objects look more prominent in the frame (as if we’d zoomed in with our camera’s lens). imovie’s cropping tools can also help to combine clips with different aspect ratios. Most clips that we watch on a TV screen are filmed in landscape orientation. On an iphone you might shoot in portrait orientation. This can result in the iphone footage having vertical black bars on either side. We’ll show you different ways to present this type of portrait oriented footage to avoid ‘pillar boxing’.
