Switch versions with Project Alternatives
The list of available alternatives includes a date and time stamp, making it even easier to track your progress across a range of different versions.
1 Check one two
To use the Project Alternatives feature, first make sure that the ‘Show Advanced Tools’ checkbox is ticked in the Advanced Tools pane of Logic’s Preferences.
2 Project yourself
To follow along with this tutorial, download the project file named ‘LPX Project Alternatives’ from the Tutorial Files folder on Filesilo and open the project in Logic.
3 Reach an arrangement
When the project loads you’ll see this simple arrangement in the Tracks area. For illustration purposes this represents the first stages of a project.
4 Change it up
Let’s make some changes. Select all of the regions in the song by pressing Cmd+a, then use Cmd+r to repeat the whole selection, creating a new arrangement.
5 Create alternative
To save this current arrangement as a new alternative version you need to go to the File menu and then select Project Alternatives > new Alternative.
6 Name alternative
In the dialog box enter a suitable name for the new alternative and then click ‘OK’. Here, we have simply called the new alternative ‘Extended Version’.
7 Save or switch
If you’ve made any changes to the current version you’ll be asked if you want to save these changes before you switch. If you want to leave it in its original state click ‘Don’t Save’.
8 Switchback
The new alternative becomes the current version. To switch back to the original version go to File>project Alternatives and select the name of the original version.
9 Rename
To give an alternative a different name go to File>project Alternatives>edit Alternatives, select the required version from the list and then hit ‘Rename’.
