Avoid macos irritations
Make your Mac easier and simpler to use
Use alternative actions
Hold down the Option/alt key when clicking a menu or button and it sometimes performs an alternative, but related action. For example, Option+click ‘Restart’ or ‘Shut Down’ to skip the confirmation pop-up window.
Change app associations
Double-click a file and it opens in an app, but what if it’s the wrong app? Select a file and press Cmd+i to open the Info window. Select the app to use in the ‘Open with section’ box, then click the ‘Change All’ button.
Don’t open downloads
Download a zip and Safari automatically extracts all of the files into the Downloads folder, which may not be where you want them to be. Go to Safari> preferences and clear the checkbox ‘Open safe files after downloading’.
Customise the Dock
In System Preferences>
Dock are some settings for reducing interface irritations. For example, disable ‘Animate opening applications’ – it’s faster without. Also clear ‘Show recent applications in Dock’ if you don’t like it.
