Set up a RAID drive
if you want to make big backups happen faster, the solution might be to set up a raid 0 array with two hard drives that splits the data across them for faster write speeds.
1 List the disks
you’ll need to use terminal. Fire it up and type ‘diskutil list’ to see the drives connected to your Mac. note their identifiers.
2 Create your RAID
note the identifiers next to the drives you want to use and type ‘diskutil appleraid create stripe raid0drive JHFS+ [first identifier] [second identifier]’.
