Stay secure in Whatsapp Heed this useful advice to stay safe and secure when using Whatsapp

-

Encrypt details

All chats are encrypted by default, but to double-check when sharing personal details tap the contact name at the top and ‘Encryption’. You can now compare the 60 digit pattern with the other party to ensure all of the messages are protected.

Two-step verification

Enable two-step verification which is located in Settings> Account>two-step verification. This will use your iphone and a PIN to protect you when registering your phone number with the service in the future. It takes little time to activate.

Backup encryption

The Backup feature is useful to stop you ever losing your chat history, but there is a downside. The backup is not encrypted and it is stored in icloud. This is secure, but there is a small chance that your chats could be seen if you are careless.

Guard details

In Privacy in Settings you can stop everyone from seeing your profile photo, your status, live location and other personal information. Use your common sense to strike the right balance between being as social as possible while remaining secure.

Turn on notifications

Make sure you turn on Security Notifications in Settings> Account>security>show security notifications to be warned when a contact’s security code changes – an automatic way to ensure you are still talking to the same person.
