The latest version of Dxo’s advanced photo editing software introduces DXO Photolibrary, a brand new image and data management indexing system that lets users sort, select and display their images faster than ever, as well as support for three new devices, including the Nikon Z 7, Fujifilm X-A5 hybrid camera and the Mavic 2 Pro drone from DJI.
Thanks to the high-quality RAW conversion technology and Dxo’s scientific calibration process, photos taken with these devices will be automatically corrected for any optical flaws, such as distortion, vignetting, chromatic aberrations and lack of sharpness. Support for further products, such as lens modules for the Hasselblad X1D, will be added later. The advanced RAW and JPEG editing tools that Photolab provides are impressive, such as de-noising, smart exposure optimisation and, best of all, DXO Clearview Plus – a cool tool that removes haze and increases local contrast within the image. The integration of Nik Software’s U Point technology also means that users can perform complex selections and brush work in just a few clicks.
Photolab 2.1 is a powerful, high-end application that delivers truly superb images from RAW files, even from very average cameras and lenses. The only downsides are that the search tool feels slightly sluggish to use and it doesn’t support Fujiflm RAF files. Everything else is polished, easy to use and brilliant.
