Rearrange songs with Arrangement markers

-

1 Structured start

Ideally, build a song from scratch using Arrangement markers. So we start from an empty project, navigating to Track>show Arrangement Track from the top menu bar.

2 Add marker

Click to show and the Arrangement Track appears below the project ruler. Locate the ‘+’ button within the header and click it once to add a first Arrangement marker.

3 Resize length

New markers are added from left to right within the Arrangement Track and default to four bars long. You can shorten or lengthen by hovering over the edge and dragging.

4 Rename option

Markers are labelled by default as Intro, Verse, Chorus, Bridge and Outro accordingly but you may click the name to swap using the menu or pick ‘Rename…’ to type your own.

5 Add multiple

Click the ‘+’ button to add as many markers as you need. Here we’ll add a further four, with each following the other immediately with no gaps to span our whole project.

6 Populate project

Resize each to desired duration and populate your project tracks with audio. If you add a Drummer track, notice that it splits the regions and names to match your markers.

7 Moving markers

With subsequent tracks, loops and audio added under the markers, you are able to clickdrag them to swap song sections seamlessly such as switching Verse with Chorus etc.

8 Switched sections

Drop the first section onto the target and the sections switch. You’ll see that all regions within the column move with the marker, splitting any that overlap across markers.

9 Automations also

Rearranging markers this way not only moves the audio regions below, but also any Automation curves (A) you’ve applied to tracks such as adjustments to Volume and Pan.
