Install Wordpress in Virtualbox

1 Download Virtualbox

Go to the Downloads page on virtualbox. org and click the OS X hosts link to get the macos version of the app. Then download and save the Extension Pack as well.

2 Install Virtualbox

Open the .dmg file in the Downloads folder and run Virtualbox.pkg to install it. Drag Virtualbox_uninstall.tool to the Applicatio­ns folder and save Usermanual.pdf too.

3 Install the extensions

Run Virtualbox and go to Virtualbox> Preference­s>extensions. Click the ‘+’ button right of the box and select the Extensions Pack downloaded from the website.

4 Download Wordpress

Go to the bitnami.com website in Safari and click ‘App Catalog’. Click the Wordpress icon and then click ‘Virtual Machines’. Click the ‘Download .OVA format’ button.

5 Import Wordpress

Run Virtualbox and click ‘Import Appliance’ on the File menu. Click the icon at the right of the box and select the .ova file you downloaded from Bitnami. Click ‘Continue’.

6 View the details

You now have Wordpress installed in Virtualbox as a virtual machine. The default configurat­ion is fine and works on any Mac using minimal memory and CPU. Click ‘Start’.

7 View your website

When Wordpress is started, a terminal window appears. Open Safari and enter the IP address shown to view your Wordpress website. It has a test page to get you started.

8 Log into Wordpress

In Safari, go to 192.168.1.128/wp-admin (replace the IP with your own) and log into Wordpress as an admin. The username and password are shown in the terminal window.

9 Welcome to Wordpress

You are now in the admin side of your own private Wordpress website on the dashboard. If you are new to Wordpress, get to know it by exploring the menus in the sidebar.
