Step-by-step

Combine clips in layers

-

1 Create new project

In the Projects panel tap the ‘+’ icon. In New Project choose ‘Movie’. Tap ‘Create Movie’. In the Media pane tap ‘Video’. Tap to select a clip. Tap ‘+’ to add it to the timeline.

2 Add cutaway layer

Place the playhead where you’d like to add a cutaway clip. Tap on a new clip in the Video browser. Tap the ‘…’ (ellipse) icon. In ‘Add as’ tap ‘Cutaway’ to add a parallel layer.

3 Add PIP layer

Add a new clip to the timeline. Place the playhead above the clip. Tap the ‘…’ icon on a new clip and choose ‘Picture in Picture’. The clip will appear as an overlay in the timeline.

4 Reposition picture

Click the PIP overlay clip in the timeline. Tap the Move tool icon in the viewer. Drag the inserted clip to re-position it. Pinch the inserted clip to re-size it within the bigger frame.

5 Magnify

To zoom into the content within the inserted picture tap the magnifying glass icon. Pinch inside the PIP frame to zoom in on an area. Drag to reposition the zoomed area.

6 Split screen

Add a new overlay clip but this time choose the Split Screen option. Clips are placed side by side. Tap on the overlay clip then tap the rotate icon in the viewer to choose different splits.

7 Change your mind

Tap on a PIP or Split Screen layer in the timeline. Tap on the Overlays icon at the bottom. You can then tap to change a Split Screen layer to a PIP layer for example.

8 Green screen

Select a clip with a green background and tap the ‘…’ icon to add it as an overlay layer. Tap on the overlay clip and use the Strength slider to reduce traces of green background.

9 Adjust edges

Tap the square icon and drag the corner handles to tighten the edges around the composited character. This gets rid of shadows or traces of green at the edges.
