Reset the SMC

-

The System Management Controller (SMC) is a circuit that deals with the power management, fan control and other components of your Mac. At times this may misfire and cause issues with your device (possibly affecting the Wi-fi as well), so try resetting this as a last resort. The method varies depending on the type of Mac you have, so we offer specific solutions below.

DESKTOP MACS

Start off by shutting down your Mac, then disconnect the power cord, wait for 15 seconds and then plug it back in again. After reconnecting it, wait a further five seconds before turning your Mac back on again.

MAC LAPTOPS (NON-REMOVABLE BATTERIES)

Shut down and unplug your Mac then hold shift+alt+ctrl, hit the power button and then keep them held for ten seconds. Then release, connect the power and turn on.

MAC LAPTOPS (REMOVABLE BATTERIES)

Shut down and unplug your Mac, remove the battery then hold the power button for five seconds before letting go. Replace the battery, connect the power and turn on.
