Down to brass tacks
Studio Horns brings super-realistic brass parts
Knowledge base
Brass roots
The Studio Horns plug-in is based on the three brass instruments conventionally used in recording sessions for pop brass – trumpet, saxophone (either alto, tenor or baritone) and trombone. The section presets are classified as a three-piece (R&B Horns), six-piece (Soul Horns) or seven-piece (Jazz Horns). With Auto Voice Split mode disabled, all instruments that share a key range are played simultaneously.
Articulation list
Articulations vary from instrument to instrument, but can include growls, shakes, scoops or doits. You can use one articulation for a whole part, or allocate different articulations to single notes.
Monophonic mode
Real brass instruments can only play one note at once, and are thus monophonic. Enabling this mode ensures that no notes will cross over, resulting in a more realistic output.
Manual controls
You can further customise and improve the authenticity of the sound with these extra Auto Vibrato and Humanize controls. Humanize introduces small pitch and level variations to mimic embouchure changes.
Dynamics via CC
With this enabled, the volume of each note is controlled by MIDI continuous controller messages, rather than note velocity. This is done either by moving a hardware control as you play or drawing in rises and falls on the controller curve in Logic’s piano roll editor.
