Finder creates zip archives but cannot password-protect them; but Terminal can. Type cd, space and drag a folder from Finder to the command. Press Enter to open. Type: zip -e [myzip] * to encrypt all files or replace the -e switch with -er to recursively encrypt all files, folders and subfolders it contains. You will be asked for a password.
