Back up with your Mac
Create an additional backup of your IOS devices on your Mac
Although icloud backups of your IOS devices can generally be relied upon, it never hurts to have a secondary backup in a different location. That’s where your Mac comes in. Whereas you may have previously been aware of backing up your device using itunes on your Mac, as this app has now essentially become Music in macos Catalina, the backup option has migrated to Finder. To access this feature, connect your IOS device to your Mac via USB, open a new Finder window and then click on your device in the sidebar. The interface will look very familiar…
1 Find your iphone
Plug your iphone or ipad into your Mac and then open a new Finder window (cmd+n). Look in the sidebar and you should see your device listed under the Locations section. Click on it.
2 Back Up Now
You will be presented with a window that presents an overview of your device, just as it used to appear in itunes. When you are ready to start backing up your device, click the ‘Back Up Now’ button.
3 Manage your backups
If you are concerned that too many IOS backups might be eating into your Mac’s storage, click on ‘Manage Backups’. If you want to remove any older backups, just select one and click ‘Delete’.
